Zachary Baiel is an eighteen year resident of West Lafayette and passionate about our Greater Lafayette (#greaterlala) community.
Never shy to engage, Zachary believes in the power of participation to shape our society.
Zachary is an active volunteer in our community, donating 1000s of hours over the years. Some organizations have included the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy, City Foods Co-Op, Tippecanoe County Public Library, West Lafayette Public Library, New Chauncey Neighborhood Association, The Learning Center, and the Indiana Coalition for Open Government.
In addition to these organizations, Zachary has also helped the individuals and groups in the community engage with its civics institutions, helping them navigate the labyrinth of bureaucracy and succeed in their goals.
You can watch Zachary’s TedX talk, Everything We Do and Don’t Do is Political (2015), to get another perspective on their political philosophies.
Zachary worked for 10.8 years at the West Lafayette Community School Corporation as a system administrator, educational technologist, co-teacher, mentor, and professional development instructor, leading the IT Department through corporation wide system adoption, on-boarding new teachers, budget management, training, and technical advocacy.
As a family, the Baiels actively volunteer at our West Lafayette Public Library and in their New Chauncey neighborhood. You can often see them riding, walking, enjoying the wonderful local parks, or picking up litter that is strewn (just one of the many areas of development that needs to be addressed).
