It takes a Community to raise a City.

Our campaign is running on several issues. What is important to you? Please let us know.

Our top three overall priorities are:

  1. Create an environment and framework that facilitates genuine civic engagement with the community of West Lafayette
  2. Sustainably develop West Lafayette in all areas (e.g. transportation, infrastructure, residential, rental, commercial, and industrial areas, celebration of local businesses etc.), with a focus outside of the Riverfront and Village areas.
  3. Be proactively transparent by providing a robust Internet presence for the community to reference and tie the information back to our engagement efforts.

Some key ideas from our platform:

Public Engagement

Our goal is to turn voters and non-voters into constituents.  We want the community to be involved in the brainstorming, prioritization, planning, and execution of West Lafayette’s endeavors.

Financials

We will implement a robust Participatory Budgeting program under our administration.

The current budgetary process is very weak on input from the Public.  Without the administration proactively engaging the community, how do we know where we should set our priorities?

When implemented, the participatory budgeting process not only provides a genuine opportunity for the Public to take part in, but it also provides valuable indicators of what is important to the community.

The information can be further analyzed to discover patterns or trends among the public based on various dimensions (e.g. demographic, geographic, etc).  This insight is critical to ensure the Public’s will is being carried out by our government.

The first step towards this goal is to also implement the Citizen’s Transparency Portal (an add-on to the City’s Munis Enterprise Resource Planning program), providing everyone in West Lafayette access to the financial transactions the City makes on their behalf.

Development

We will focus on creating an economic environment that celebrates our local business owners, while also helping communities around us thrive as well.

Instead of continuous sprawl, we will advocate and create an in-fill program for West Lafayette.  The Sprawl Repair Manual will be a guide.

In coordination with our Sprawl Repair, we will create infrastructure improvements celebrating non-vehicular traffic throughout the city.

Planning

The West Lafayette Downtown Plan Proposal was created without direct feedback opportunities from the community. Our administration would engage the Public to ensure that future development in the Riverfront and Village areas meets the expectations and desires of the community it will serve.

Infrastructure

Our administration will place an emphasis on alternative modes of transportation (walking, cycling, scooting, skateboarding, long boarding, etc.) and execute on updating our existing infrastructure through tangible changes (e.g. traffic calming measures, trail expansions, pedestrian-only zones, etc).

Open Government

Our administration will be the most proactively transparent government in the state of Indiana.

The government should not be the gatekeepers of answers and must, instead, be the stewards of information.

Information and data are absolutely critical for the Public to understand how their City is functioning (or not).  We will strive for creating mutual knowledge, ensuring everyone has access to the information about their City.

As we develop and adopt new technological systems, part of their on-going maintenance must be to create publicly accessible exports and reports in both human and machine readable formats, allowing anyone in our community to read, analyze, visualize, dissect, and question our operations.

The government is here to serve all of the people and not just a select few who understand how to navigate the current system.

Data Sets

Our administration will make available the data sets we work with so the Public can have access to the same data we are utilizing.
